Safco® AlphaBetter® Desk Receives National Press Attention

Health Benefits Create New Urgency to Get Kids Standing

March 2016 – Towards the end of 2015 the AlphaBetter® Desk received news attention across several national networks, highlighting the health benefits of standing desks in classrooms. Classroom and health benefits such as higher calorie burn, better focus and higher engagement levels are creating a new urgency to get kids standing, drawing press attention from across the country.

The recent news segments reported California Vallecito Elementary School's initiative to implement AlphaBetter Desks in all of its classrooms to create a healthier and more focused environment for students to learn.

Stories like that of Vallecito Elementary School and health studies alike are drawing attention to the advantages of using standing desks in the classroom. Students report they feel more focused and engaged in the classroom, while recent studies detail the health dangers of sitting for prolonged periods of time1.

The excitement surrounding AlphaBetter is creating a new interest in "Active Classrooms," suggesting movement in the classroom aids in learning, focus and a more engaged classroom environment. An Active Classroom also supports increased movement and healthy posture, combatting sedentary behavior such as watching TV, surfing the internet and playing video games, that can be prevalent in students' lives.

The AlphaBetter Desk allows students to both stand and fidget, with its unique patented Swinging Pendulum™ Footrest Bar, or "fidget bar". It is also height-adjustable and durably designed to withstand continual student use. These features aid in movement and learning, while increasing students' engagement levels and promoting an "Active Classroom" environment.

The AlphaBetter Desk was conceptualized by Abby Brown, a teacher who recognized the need for a classroom product to help children learn and be healthier. Today, her quest for a healthier classroom product is gaining momentum and helping students live healthier lives. To learn more about the AlphaBetter Desk please visit
